Prevalence of little finger brachymesophalangia (BMP-V) in the Chinese population

Objective This study aims at determining the prevalence of little finger brachymesophalangia (BMP-V) in Chinese ethnic population. Methods A retrospective reviewing hand radiographs taken United Christian Hospital from January 2011 to July 2016. Exclusion criteria included previous trauma, background history genetic syndromes and non-Chinese origin. The were assessed with objective measurement using computer software defined BMP-V following criteria: (1) 5th MP length: 4th length <0.65 (2) PP <0.50. would be as cases if they fulfil both criteria. Results total 563 394 patients (290 left hands 273 right hands; 169 bilateral hands) reviewed. mean age (± standard deviation) was 51.3 ± 11.7 years (ranging 25 69 years). Forty-four identified have BMP-V. found 11.2%. Clinodactyly trapezoidal shape middle phalanx 6.82% cases. All subjects showed symmetrical findings concerning presence Conclusion is first report brachymesophalangia-V adult population It lower than Japanese group but higher other groups documented studies.
